Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since March of 2023.
Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an better serve.
The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to force a final set.
He defended 4 early chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
